For 3€ we were able to take a round-trip 3-minute ride up about 700ft at a 45% grade to the top of the hill overlooking Bilbao from the north.
There’s something oddly fascinating about holes in rocks. The door leads into what should be nothing but it’s actually a station. Funiculars are cable-driven trains and used frequently on mountain sides and hill sides where normal trains don’t have enough traction – they would slide down the rails.
It was my coworker who suggested this ride. I’m so thankful because I didn’t even consider it but the views were incredible of the city. Everywhere I go there are unbelievable places and each city has special elements unique to it. Bilbao was a gem.
